If you want a healthy and beautiful smile as a teen, our team at Orthodontic Associates of New England recommends that you do the following things on a regular basis:

· Keep up on oral hygiene: It is vital that you brush your teeth every morning and every night, floss your smile at least once a day, and rinse your mouth with mouthwash daily. Doing these tasks will keep the tooth decay away and it will also help you have a beautiful, clean smile throughout the day.

· Take care of your smile: We strongly recommend that you do not smoke. Smoking can cause major complications not only with your oral health, but with your entire body as well. We also recommend that you avoid eating sugary and starching foods as much as possible, and you wear a mouthguard when you are active. We also ask that you keep from piercing any part of your mouth because it can severely harm your smile.

· Visit your dentist: Come into our office every six months for a dental cleaning and exam so you can completely prevent gum disease and professionally clean your oral cavity. These appointments are very important and they are necessary if you want to achieve your smile goals.

· Take care of your braces: If you currently wear braces, please do everything you can to keep them in tip-top shape. Refrain from the habits that can break your brackets and wires, like biting your nails, eating inappropriate foods, and chewing on pencils. We also ask you to brush and floss your teeth after each meal and snack throughout the day.
